Gunhild Hoogensen

Dr Gunhild Hoogensen is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Tromsø. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science specializing in International Relations and Comparative Politics from the University of Alberta. Her main research interest is the study of security, from traditional to widened applications, in particular the application of a widened security agenda in the Arctic region, as well as in military education. Dr. Hoogensen is the International PI for the International Polar Year project “The Impacts of Oil and Gas Activity on Peoples of the Arctic Using a Multiple Securities Perspective (GAPS)” project, and leads the project along with her Norwegian and Canadian colleagues Dr. Dawn Bazely (York University, and Dr. Geir Wing Gabrielsen (Norwegian Polar Institute). Her books include: ”International Relations, Security, and Jeremy Bentham” (Routledge) released July 2005, and “Women in Power: Leaders Since 1960” with Bruce Solheirm, released July 2006. She additionally has published articles appearing in Security Dialogue, Canadian Foreign Policy, and International Studies Review.
